Well, Apple finally released the 10.15.2 Combo Updater. I downloaded and installed it on my troubled iMac. After the Mac started into 10.15.2 it appeared that all the wonkiness was fixed! Hale to the Combo Updater!! There was one other issue I had to deal with, but I think it was relevant to my machine only. Here are a couple of reminders for installing Catalina 10.15.2 if you have not done so already.
- Before updating, do a thorough backup of all your stuff. This probably goes without saying, but I am saying it anyway.
- Use the Combo Updater only. Do not install the Delta Updater from the App Store.
- After you install the update and are booted into the Desktop, do another Restart. This seems to make everything work together better for some reason.
I had one other problem that was annoying. I use a TripLite UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) for my iMac just in case of power outages. I kept getting the message that “my Mac was running on battery power and to shut down immediately”. No matter how many times I clicked through that warning, it kept coming back. It was driving me crazy. I tried all kinds of things to get rid of it, but no joy. Suddenly, however, it just stopped after one of my many Restarts. I don’t get, but I don’t care as long as I can use my Mac uninterrupted. So far, so good. I hope this warning never comes back. Only time will tell.
